Moviehouse builds slate, strikes US deal for Dead Cert

On the eve of the Cannes market, UK sales outfit Moviehouse has closed an eyecatching US deal on its Steve Lawson horror picture Dead Cert.

Following its UK release via Momentum Pictures, the UK vampire film has been snapped up for US distribution by Shout! Factory. Dead Cert has also sold in France (FIP), Germany (I-ON New Media), and Australia / New Zealand (Visual Entertainment Group), with other deals pending.

Now in its 10th year of business Moviehouse, set up by Gary Phillips and Mark Vennis, has arrived in Cannes with several new projects on its slate.

Among its new market titles are Riot On Redchurch Street, directed by Trevor Miller. Sam Hazeldine, Alysson Paradis and Michael Des Barres head up the cast for the film, about a love triangle between an East London rock and roll manager and two of his clients – a girl singer on the verge of mainstream success and the young frontman from a local punk band.

On the Croisette, Moviehouse is also giving a market premiere to Wide Blue Yonder, Robert Young’s comedy starring Hollywood legend Lauren Bacall alongside Brian Cox and James Fox. The film is about a retired sailor who promises his best friend of 40 years a burial at sea. The fact that he hasn’t got the body, a boat or any money isn’t going to stop him keeping his word. However, Miss Reimark, his adversary, has other plans.

Also on Moviehouse’s Cannes slate is Craig Lahiff’s thriller, Swerve (screening), Paul Hills’ horror picture The Power (in pre-production), Shimmy Marcus’ Soulboy, Sandy Collora’s sci-fi drama Hunter Prey and Brendan O’Loughlin’s thriller Baseline.
