Imax Corp. and US exhibitorNational Amusement have signed a deal that will see the first IMAX screeninstalled in Argentina. The new facility will be part of an existing multiplex,the Showcenter Norte in Buenos Aires and is expected to open in October 2005;it will be capable of playing standard and 3D IMAX pictures as well asdigitally re-mastered Hollywood titles. The proposal is subject to Argentinegovernment approvals.
The deal expands on a pactbetween the two companies signed in August 2004 that committed the exhibitor torolling out between six and 18 large-format venues, predominantly in the US andthe UK.
National Amusements, whichhas installed four systems in the US to date with two more pending, said itslikely course of action is to install most of the remaining twelve in the UK.The exhibitor operates more than 1,415 screens in the US, UK and Latin America,as well as being the parent company of Viacom.
