The Munich-based Avalon Entertainment Group has launched a sales arm that will be attending the Cannes Market with its first acquisition, So Long, My Heart! (Wir Werden Uns Wiederseh'n), the second feature by the directorial duo of Stefan Hillebrand and Oliver Paulus.
The tragicomedy follows a love triangle between careworkers (played by Isolde Fischer, Pola Kinski and Tom Jahn) in the setting of an old people's home in Mannheim with roles played by genuine geriatric patients.
The German-Swiss co-production had its world premiere at last year's San Sebastian Film Festival and theatrical rights have already been sold to distributors in Portugal and Brazil.
It will be released into German cinemas this Thursday (May 3) by Stefan Paul's Arsenal Filmverleih.
Rosie Bilton, who had been at One Eyed Films in London, will oversee international sales and acquistitions at Avalon's new division.
'By working with Latin American films [at One Eyed] I have developed a specialist knowledge of how to sell foreign-language films outside of their own linguistic region,' Bilton said. 'My aim with Avalon Entertainment is to use my knowledge to take quality arthouse films to an international audience. Teaming up with a German company allows me to benefit from being based closer to the heart of Europe while retaining an international outlook from the UK.'
The company intends to sell two to three quality titles per year whilst focusing on developing long-term relationships with talented directors via co-production.
