The New Horizons Association has picked up Polish theatrical, DVD and TV rights to Béla Tarr’s The Turin Horse and Wim Wenders’ Pina.
After Berlinale premieres, both films will make their Polish debut at the 11th Era New Horizons International Film Festival, July 21–31 in Wrocław.
New Horizons will present four 3D screenings of Pina at the festival before releasing the film to theaters. Tickets for the July 22, 23, 29 and 30 shows are already on sale through the festival’s web site for PLN 35 ($12.73).
“We are honoured to pay this film tribute to a great artist,” festival director Roman Gutek said of Wenders’ film. “We will give the film the right attention and bring it to theaters and opera houses across Poland in style.
“We always want to introduce the most interesting auteurs to the Polish audience. Bela Tarr is such a director,” Gutek said. “I’m confident that the audience will be delighted with The Turin Horse.”
Era New Horizons’ distribution arm focuses on art house cinema and guarantees Polish distribution to award winners at the annual festival. So far 13 titles were released both in cinemas and on DVD, among them Steve McQueen’s Hunger, Agnès Varda’s The Beaches of Agnès, Anocha Suwichakornpong’s Mundane History, Michelangelo Frammartino’s Le Quattro Volte and Gaspar Noé’s Enter the Void.
The 11th Era New Horizons International Film Festival will be held in Wrocław July 21–31. Last year’s edition drew 122,500 spectators.
