New York-based production outfit Snapper Films has partnered with Scandinavia's Smile Entertainment to co-produce a slate of English-language features.
The three-year arrangement includes Fidelity, written by Tom Griffin and to be directed by Juha Wuolijoki, and Arto Halonen's Guardian Angel. Both projects are drama thrillers that are expected to shoot in Copenhagen next year.
Snapper recently announced that it had optioned the film rights to the play A Perfect Ganesh, by Tony Award-winning playwright Terrence McNally. The company plans to go into production next year. Other projects in the works include Luci's Prayer, written by Rick Ramage (Stigmata) and set to shoot next year under Snapper's production pact with EuroArts Entertainment of Berlin.
"Working with a company as respected as Smile will enable Snapper to develop and finance projects faster," said Snapper founder Juha Wuolijoki.
Timo Lahtinen, chief executive and principal shareholder of Smile, added: "In the last couple of years, Snapper has shown a great ability to find the right material and develop good English language projects. I'm convinced that together we will produce some exciting films for today's cinema-going audience."
