A24 and Ex Machina director Alex Garland are reuniting on upcoming action film Civil War with The Power Of The Dog awards prospect Kirsten Dunst and Wagner Moura on board.
The story is based on the British writer-director’s original screenplay and takes place in a United States in the near-future. Plot details remain under wraps and the cast includes Stephen Henderson and Cailee Spaeny.
A24 will handle the global release and is producing alongside Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich of DNA and Gregory Goodman.
Garland received an original screenplay Oscar nomination for Ex Machina, which won the Academy Award for visual effects. A24 will release his upcoming horror Men starring Jessie Buckley and Rory Kinnear later this year. His directing credits include Annihilation starring Natalie Portman and FX mini-series Devs, and he has written screenplays for Sunshine and 28 Days Later.
Brazilian star Moura’s credits include Narcos and Elite Squad and he will next be seen opposite Elisabeth Moss in The Shining Girls for AppleTV+. Henderson’s recent work includes Dune, Bruised, Fences, and Lady Bird. He was a series regular on Devs and earned a Tony nod for Fences on Broadway. Spaeny’s credits include On The Basis Of Sex, Mare Of Easttown, and How It Ends.
DNA produced Garland’s Ex Machina, Annihilation and the upcoming Men.
