Ahead of the North American premiere of Ti West’s Pearl at TIFF later today (September 13), A24 and the filmmaker have announced MaXXXine, the third entry in their X horror franchise.
West writes and directs the feature which sees franchise lead Mia Goth star again as Maxine, the sole survivor of the bloody events of X, who continues her journey towards fame and sets out to make it as an actress in 1980’s Los Angeles.
MaXXXine is produced by A24, Jacob Jaffke, West, Kevin Turen and Harrison Kreiss, with Goth on board as executive producer.
TIFF MIdnight Madness selection Pearl received its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and will open across the US on Friday (September 16).
Pearl is a prequel set decades perior to the events in X, which premiered at SXSW earlier this year and starred Goth as Maxine/Pearl in the 1970’s-set story of the cast and crew on a porn shoot who are terrorised by their elderly Texan hosts. Origin story Pearl takes place in 1918.
