Adam Fogelson, the outgoing chairman of STX’s motion picture group, is joining Lionsgate as vice-chair of the studio’s motion picture group.
Starting September 1 Fogelson will oversee worldwide marketing and theatrical distribution at Lionsgate and be part of the motion picture group’s leadership team involved in planning and executing content strategy. He reports to motion picture group chair Joe Drake.
The executive, who prior to STX served as chairman of Universal Pictures, becomes the latest executive from the senior ranks to leave STX following the announcement in May that president of international John Friedberg was launching Black Bear International with Teddy Schwarzman.
The departures come after Najafi Companies acquired STX Entertainment earlier this year following a particularly challenging period for STX dating back to its acquisition by Eros in 2020 and the ensuing pandemic. Since launching in 2014 STX has produced few hits, among them Bad Moms and Hustlers. Lionsgate had been linked to a possible merger until the Najafi deal was announced.
Lionsgate’s upcoming slate includes the theatrical releases of Prey For The Devil on October 28, John Wick: Chapter 4 on March 24, 2023; Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret on April 28, 2023; and The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes on November 17, 2023.
