For the first time in its 45-year history the Association Of Film Commissioners International (AFCI) will host its Cineposium conference in Latin America.
The event will take place in Bogota, Colombia, from September 20-22 and marks the association’s first fully in-person gathering since the pandemic. Over the past decade, Cineposium has taken place in the US, France, New Zealand, Spain, South Korea and most recently Saint Petersburg in Russia in 2019. Last year’s event went online due to Covid-19.
Candidate cities had to demonstrate world-class resources and infrastructure to accommodate the event, which connects AFCI members with decision-makers from global production and government policy-makers and focuses on education and professional development for film commission professionals.
Bogota mayor Claudia Lopez said the selection was “a result of the City’s commitment to turn our capital into an epicentre of international audiovisual production”.
AFCI president Eve Honthaner said, “AFCI’s presence in Latin America has grown along with the continent’s emergence as a production centre. We have national and regional film commission members in Argentina, Brazil, Panama, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic and Colombia, and we expect our Latin American membership to grow further with the launch of several new film offices currently in development.”
AFCI is planning Cineposium 2022 with Bogota Film Commission, Instituto Distrital de las Artes, Colombian Film Commission, Proimagenes Colombia and other groups like Bogota Chamber of Commerce, PROCOLOMBIA, Colombian Ministry of Culture, Bogota Tourism Office, Invest in Bogota and Greater Bogota Convention Bureau.
The Cineposium runs immediately after Toronto International Film Festival (September 8-18). The cities are in the same time zone and connected by daily direct flights. Further information about Cineposium 2022 sessions, speakers and early registration will be announced shortly.
