Juho Kuosmanen’s Finnish Oscar submission Compartment No. 6 has joined AFI Fest’s World Cinema line-up and will receive its US premiere next month.
Following the world premiere of in Cannes in July, Sony Pictures Classics acquired North America, Latin America, Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
Compartment No. 6 centres on a young Finnish woman who flees a love affair in Moscow by boarding a train to the arctic port of Murmansk. Sharing the long ride and a tiny sleeping car with a Russian miner, the woman and her companion face the truth about their yearning for human connection.
Seidi Haarla and Yuriy Borisov star and Jussi Rantamäki and Emilia Haukka produced for Aamu Film Company.
Kuosmanen’s film joins the likes of Audrey Diwan’s Venice Golden Lion winner Happening, Nadav Lapid’s Ahed’s Knee, Clio Barnard’s Ali & Ava, and Panah Panahi’s Hit The Road on AFI Fest’s World Cinema roster.
The festival runs November 10-14 and previously announced it will open with the world premiere of tick, tick… BOOM! and will close with King Richard.
