AFI Fest has selected Regina King’s awards contender One Night In Miami as its centrepiece selection and will host a drive-in screening later this month.
King’s feature directorial debut will play at the Rose Bowl on October 19. Amazon Studios plans to release the Amazon Original Film in select US cinemas on December 25 prior to the global launch on Prime Video on January 15, 2021.
One Night In Miami takes place over one night in 1964 as Muhammad Ali – until then known as Cassius Clay – celebrates his shock world heavyweight title win over Sonny Liston with his friends Malcolm X, Sam Cooke and Jim Brown.
Over the course of an evening the four Black icons come together, take stock of their lives and their role in the Civil Rights movement.
Kingsley Ben-Adir, Eli Goree, Aldis Hodge and Leslie Odom Jr star, and Kemp Powers adapted the screenplay from his 2013 stage play.
Jess Wu Calder, Keith Calder and Jody Klein, produced, and King and Powers are executive producers.
AFI Fest runs from October 15-22.
