AGC Studios will fully finance the alien abduction thriller They Found Us from Neill Blomkamp with Joel Kinnaman attached to star and will commence international sales in Cannes. UTA Independent Film Group jointly represents US rights.
They Found Us reunites AGC and Blomkamp after 2021 supernatural thriller Demonic and is based on an original screenplay by Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight, Fantastic Four) about a father (Kinnaman) and daughter on a camping trip to fix their broken relationship when they are attacked by a hostile alien determined to take them to its world.
Godfrey and Marty Bowen are producing for Temple Hill Entertainment (Smile, Twilight franchise) and AGC Studios founder and head Stuart Ford serves as executive producer alongside Temple Hill’s John Fischer.
Production is scheduled for 2023 in Australia. Blomkamp directed the upcoming Gran Turismo, as well as District 9 and Elysium.
Kinnaman (Suicide Squad, RoboCop) just wrapped production on AGC action thriller The Silent Hour. He will soon be seen in John Woo’s action thriller Silent Night and Sympathy For The Devil opposite Nicolas Cage.
“We’re delighted to extend our relationship with Neill, who is a master of the sci-fi and horror genres,” said Ford. “Jeremy Slater’s taut, terrifying screenplay is a perfect match for Neill’s visual talents and the proven audience-pleasing instincts of our partners at Temple Hill.”
Godfrey added, “We’re so excited to be working with Neill and Joel and everyone at AGC to bring They Found Us to life. The otherworldly horror and breathless suspense at the centre of Jeremy’s script is merely the backdrop for an all too relatable and emotional story of a father and teenage daughter grappling with their differences and working through their estrangement.”
AGC’s SVP of legal & business affairs Anant Tamirisa negotiated the deal on behalf of AGC with Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox on behalf of Temple Hill.
