Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas announced plans on Wednesday [17] to open its first Lubbock area location with franchise partner Triple Tap Ventures.
The theatre will be state-of-the art with eight screens, each equipped with digital and RealD 3D projection plus 35mm projection in select auditoriums.
Construction commenced over 60 days ago and the location is expected to open in time for summer 2014.
“We have strong ties to Lubbock,” said Alamo Drafthouse founder and CEO Tim League, adding: “We’ve talked about bringing the Alamo to Lubbock for years now, and I am very pleased to be partnering with Triple Tap Ventures to make it a reality.”
“With over 30,000 college students in three universities, a steady economy, a trade area of nearly 500,000 people, the Lubbock community was a clear choice to become home to an Alamo Drafthouse Cinema,” said Triple Tap Ventures president Neil Billingsley-Michaelsen.
“This great community with its vibrant art and academic culture is a perfect setting to bring Alamo’s unique entertainment experience.”
