The UK’s Altitude Films is teaming with UK theatre company Bristol Old Vic to screen a live stage production of Hamlet in over 300 UK and Ireland cinemas on April 6.
Billy Howle stars in the modern adaptation of the Shakespeare classic with the cast also including Mirren Mack and Niamh Cusack.
This is Altitude’s first foray into stage-to-screen releases and is the first time Bristol Old Vic has staged a production with the intention of a cinema release.
The production was filmed in front of a live audience at Bristol Old Vic and is presented in association with the BBC. The cinema release, titled Hamlet - Bristol Old Vic Live, will include a Q&A with director John Haidar.
Lia Devlin, managing director at Altitude Film Distribution said: “We are thrilled to be building on Altitude’s event cinema offering this year with the Bristol Old Vic’s brilliant production of Hamlet. John Haidar and the team have contemporised Hamlet in such a stunning way that appeals to new young audiences as well as the traditional.”
