Anchor Bay Films has acquired theatrical and DVD rights to Odd Lot Entertainment and Perfect Weekend’s The Open Road from executive producer Wim Wenders.
Michael Meredith wrote and directed the film starring Justin Timberlake as a young man who embarks on a road trip to visit his dying mother and persuades his father, a former professional athlete played by Jeff Bridges, to join him for the ride.
Kate Mara, Harry Dean Stanton, Lyle Lovett and Mary Steenburgen also star.
“We are honoured to distribute Michael Meredith’s intensely moving film, The Open Road,” Anchor Bay Entertainment president Bill Clark said. “Not only do we believe in its powerful story, but it stars a great cast including the tremendous Jeff Bridges.”
The deal was negotiated by Clark and Kevin Kasha for Anchor Bay Films and Hal Sadoff and Jessica Lacy on behalf of ICM with Brian O’Shea for Odd Lot Entertainment.
Earlier this year Anchor Bay Films acquired Spread starring Ashton Kutcher and Anne Heche from CAA following its Sundance premiere.
