Final UK screenings of record-breaking event cinema concert from André Rieu will be the first to combine an artist’s music product with cinema tickets.
CinemaLive, Cineworld and Decca Records are to screen André Rieu’s record-breaking Maastricht Concert in the UK on two final nights.
The 10th anniversary concert currently holds the UK box office record for the highest grossing music event to date, taking £858,957 ($1.39m) mostly on July 19.
The final encore screenings will takes place at 68 Cineworld cinemas on Nov 2/3.
Cinemagoers will also have the chance to pre-order Rieu’s new album, Love in Venice, when buying their tickets online, marking the first time an artist has ‘bundled’ a music product with cinema tickets in the UK.
CinemaLive CEO and co-director Peter Skillman said ‘We have had great success for all parties with album and cinema ticket bundling in Australia and I am very pleased to be the first theatrical distributor to launch this concept here in the UK.
“Not only are we selling cinema tickets and albums, but these sales count towards the album’s chart position. We hope that other artists will follow in André’s footsteps, illustrating the fact that cinema can prove a valuable revenue stream.”
