XYZ Films and CAA Media Finance have licensed multiple territories on the upcoming Anna Kendrick sci-fi thriller Stowaway from the Arctic filmmakers to Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA).
Ahead of a spring 2019 production start, the studio has picked up rights for English-speaking territories, Latin America, Eastern Europe, and most of Asia.
Additional deals have closed in: the Middle East (Falcon Films), Benelux (Dutch Film Works), Russia (Volga), pan-Asian PTV (Fox Networks Group Asia), and airlines (Cinesky Pictures).
North American rights remain available on the project, in which Kendrick will play a medical researcher on a mission to Mars who finds a stowaway on board. As the ship’s resources start to dwindle, the discovery pits the media against her fellow crewmembers.
As was the case with Arctic, Joe Penna will direct Stowaway from a screenplay he co-wrote with Ryan Morrison. Morrison will also serve as executive producer. XYZ Films will produce alongside RISE Pictures and augenschein Filmproduktion.
XYZ and CAA Media Finance are arranging financing and handle sales at the AFM.
XYZ will also continue sales at AFM on a number of titles including Synchronic starring Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan, The Silencing with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Titan starring Lily Collins, and Vivarium starring Imogen Poots and Jesse Eisenberg.
