Cecile Gaget has been appointed head of film at European studio Wild Bunch, stepping down from her senior role at UK-based producer and financier Anton.
The French executive takes up the new role from today (September 1), joining from Anton where she was president of international production and distribution for nearly two years. She previously spent a decade on the executive team of French studio Gaumont as head of international production and distribution, setting up the company’s US film division during her tenure.
Based in Paris, Gaget will lead Wild Bunch’s film group reporting to CEO Ron Meyer and co-CEO Sophie Jordan, overseeing French acquisitions, distribution and local production. She will also be tasked with ramping up an international production slate including English-speaking projects for Wild Bunch AG, which will act as producer and financier.
Gaget said that, alongside Meyer and Jordan, they will “aim to create a home for bold filmmakers and creators”.
Her appointment comes amid a period of ongoing change for the Wild Bunch group following the surprise appointment of Hollywood veteran Meyer and French media industry executive Jordan last November, replacing co-founder and then CEO Vincent Grimond.
In a joint statement, Meyer and Jordan said they were “looking forward to building Wild Bunch’s film slate” with Gaget.
During her tenure at Anton, Gaget oversaw international strategy on upcoming Gerard Butler sequel Greenland Migration; upcoming thriller Mothers Instinct, starring Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway; sci-fi Vesper, which she executive produced; and animated family feature Fireheart. She also led the acquisitions team.
At Gaumont, which Gaget joined in 2010 to oversee worldwide sales, she handled award-winning features including Intouchables, C’est la Vie and The Specials. She also oversaw worldwide sales and distribution on Nicolas Winding Refn’s Only God Forgives and The Neon Demon, and acquired the US remake rights to Korean zombie hit Train To Busan.
The Wild Bunch group spans TV and film distribution and production operations in Germany, France, Spain and Italy as well as a TV sales arm. Its former feature film sales arm Wild Bunch International has been an independent entity since 2019.
