Sebastián Borensztein’s adventure caper Heroic Losers will represent Argentina in the international feature film Oscar race.
The Argentina Academy Of Film Arts And Sciences announced the news on Monday night (23). Ricardo Darín stars for the first time alongside his son Chico Darín in the story of agricultural activists who band together to recover money stolen from their collective.
Film Factory handles sales on Heroic Losers (La Odisea de los Giles), which opened in Argentina through Warner Bros and had its European premiere at San Sebastian after the international bow in Toronto earlier in the month. K&S Films produced.
In its review in Toronto, Screendaily wrote, “In transforming bleak reality into an uplifting fantasy, this remains a thoroughly likeable movie.”
Argentina last won what was then known as the best foreign language film Oscar in 2010 with Juan José Campanella’s The Secret In Their Eyes (El Secreto de Sus Ojos) starring Darín.
