In a shock departure, Arianna Bocco has stepped down as president of IFC Films after 17 years at the New York-based company.
Bocco, who was named president in December 2020 and has been a regular face on the festival and distribution circuit for many years, will be replaced in the interim by head of acquisitions Scott Shooman until a permanent successor is installed.
“I have big news to share! After much thought, I have stepped down from my post as President of IFC Films to pursue other opportunities,” Bocco posted on Facebook on Friday. “I’m so proud of the IFC Films team I’ve worked with over the last 17 years for what we’ve accomplished and for their hard work, compassion and dedication over many amazing years to doing what we all love - which is supporting great artists and great films.
“I know the team is in great hands with Scott who will continue to carry on the mission that we have all spent our careers promoting. I’m excited for what comes next!”
“IFC Films is a vibrant and vital part of our business and we will continue to acquire, produce and distribute films across our IFC Films, Shudder and RLJE Films ecosystems,” IFC Films parent AMC networks said in a statement.
“We have full and total confidence in Scott’s ability to run the business as Interim head and know that our film team will not miss a beat as it proceeds forward with a robust slate of releases and acquisitions.”
Prior to IFC Films Bocco led the independent feature packaging division of the Gersh Agency in New York and before that worked at Miramax Films as senior vice-president of acquisitions. Earlier this month she received the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from the French government.
Shooman joined IFC Films in January 2022. He previously served at Endeavor Content and prior to that CBS Films following a lengthy stint at Sony where he helped establish Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group.
Earlier this week it emerged that IFC Centre SVP and general manager John Vanco, a key part of the IFC Films leadership, was departing to head up programming for all Netflix theatres starting on April 10.
