FilmNation will commence sales at the EFM this month on Armando Iannucci’s The Personal History Of David Copperfield based on the classic Charles Dickens novel.
Iannucci will direct and produces with Kevin Loader. FilmNation developed the feature, written by Iannucci and Simon Blackwell, with whom Iannucci and Jesse Armstrong shared an adapted screenplay oscar nod for In The Loop in 2010.
Principal casting is underway in time for an anticipated start of principal photography in June in the UK. FilmNation handles international sales and jointly represents US rights with UTA Independent Film Group.
The Personal History Of David Copperfield is styled as a “fresh and modern” take on the life of Dickens’ title character as he navigates a chaotic world to find his elusive place within it.
Iannucci most recently directed The Death Of Stalin, which premiered in Toronto last autumn and is up for two BAFTA awards, among others.
“We are thrilled to work with Armando in bringing to film lovers everywhere this classic story that’s a genuine mastery of character and world-building,” FilmNation CEO Glen Basner said.
FilmNation’s EFM slate in Berlin includes Amazon Studios’ The Aeronauts, as revealed exclusively by Screen this week. Sales title Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot by Gus Van Sant will screen In competition.
