Ava DuVernay’s Array Releasing has picked up Dominican Republic Oscar submission Bantú Mama for the US, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.
Array will debut Ivan Herrera’s film on select screens and on Netflix on November 17. The story follows a French woman of African descent who escapes from custody and is taken in by a group of children.
Clarisse Albrecht stars and co-wrote the screenplay with Herrera. Producers are Herrera, Albrecht, Franmiris Lombert and Nicolas LaMadrid. Bantú Mama premiered at SXSW last year and went on to play at BFI London Film Festival, among others.
Gordon Bobb of Del, Shaw, Moonves, Tanaka, Finkelstein, and Lezcano brokered the deal on behalf of Array with Albrecht and Herrera for the filmmakers.
