UPDATE: Avatar: The Way Of Water has reached $1.9282bn at the global box office and has overtook Spider-Man: No Way Home on Tuesday to become the sixth highest-grossing release of all-time and the highest-grossing hit of the pandemic era.
As the fifth highest international release in box office history the fantasy action sequel stands at $1.3538bn. A $574.4m tally in North America places it as the second biggest release of 2022 behind Top Gun: Maverick on a seemingly unassailable $718.7m.
China has generated $217.4m, France $123.3m, Germany $108.5m, South Korea $93.6m, the UK $77.7m, and India $56.9m.

The Disney/Lightstorm/20th Century Studios action fantasy sequel posted $17m on Monday and added $9.5m, for $1.345bn internationally and $7.3m for $571.6m in North America.
At time of writing only six films (this will become five by the end of Tuesday) have grossed more worldwide: James Cameron’s 2009 franchise pilot Avatar on $2.93bn, Avengers: Endgame (2019) on $2.797bn; Cameron’s Titanic (1997) on $2.195bn; Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015) on $2.069bn; and Avengers: infinity War (2018) on $2.048bn. All numbers are unadjusted for inflation.
Internationally Avatar: The Way Of Water ranks as the fifth highest-grossing release of all-time. In Europe, it has passed Star Wars: The Force Awakens to become the third highest-grossing release of all-time across the region, excluding Russia.
In North America the behemoth is the second highest release of 2022 behind Top Gun: Maverick and has become the biggest film of all time in Puerto Rico.
By territory China is the clear leader behind North America on $214.5m, followed by France on $122.4m, Germany on $107.7m, South Korea on $93.1m, and the UK on $77.2m.
India has generated $56.8m, Australia $51.4m, Mexico $49.1m, Spain and Italy $43.6m, Brazil $37.2m, and Japan $26.3m.
