Screen can reveal the first trailer for Kleber Mendonca Filho and Juliano Dornelles’ Bacurau, which will compete for the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Mendonca Filho returns to Cannes with his second Competition entry, following 2016’s Aquarius — reuniting with Sonia Braga, and co-writing and co-directing with regular production designer Dornelles.
Described as a mixture of western, adventure and sci-fi, Bacurau is set in a small town in the Brazilian backlands that disappears from the map after the death of a woman at the age of 94. Sonia Braga, Udo Kier and Karine Teles lead the cast.
SBS International are handling international sales.
