The nominations for the 2018 British Academy Film Awards were revealed today (Jan 9) at London’s Princess Anne Theatre.
Guillermo Del Toro’s fantasy epic The Shape Of Water leads the way with 12 nominations, including best film and director.
Darkest Hour and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri follow in second place with nine nominations. Dunkirk and Blade Runner 2049 have eight.
Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk is up for best film and director - Nolan’s second nod in the category after 2010’s Inception - and multiple craft categories. Blade Runner director Villeneuve is also up for director.
I, Tonya received five nominations including leading actress for Margot Robbie and supporting actress for Allison Janney. The Shape Of Water is also represented in both categories for lead Sally Hawkins and supporting actress Octavia Spencer.
Call Me By Your Name received four nods, though all in strong categories: best film, director, leading actor and adapted screenplay.
Phantom Thread also received four noms including for lead actor Daniel Day-Lewis in what is said to be his final film role before retirement.
Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool, Lady Bird and Paddington 2 have three nominations.
