Arrangement will see BBC invest in Elstree with a mix of HD television studios spaces.
BBC Studios And Post Production, a commercial subsidiary of the BBC, will be moving to Elstree Studios in Spring 2013, while the BBC’s Television Centre is being redeveloped.
The arrangement with Elstree Studios will see BBC Studios And Post Production investing in Elstree with a mix of HD television studios spaces. BBC Studios And Post Production will continue to occupy its current BBC Elstree space as well and will, between the two locations, offer a range of studios and stages, including BBC Elstree’s Studio D (11,200 sq. ft.), and Elstree Studios HD equipped Stages 8 and 9 (7,500 sq. ft. each) and the George Lucas Stages (15,600 sq. ft. each). The BBC’s current Television Centre set up will be temporarily relocated to Elstree Studios, allowing a smooth continuation of its production services.
“This arrangement with BBC Studios and Post Production will make Elstree Studios the number one destination for television production in London,” said Roger Morris [pictured], Managing Director of Elstree Studios. “Having the expertise, management and technical resources of BBC Studios And Post Production working with us, combined with the significant investments we are both making in the Studios, I cannot imagine a better offering in the facilities market place for television producers. It’s a very exciting opportunity for both of us.”
BBC Studios And Post Production will also continue to offer a range of SD, HD and 3D post services via their Digital Media Services arm, which will locate to a new West London location in 2013.
Clive Hodge, Interim CEO for BBC Studios and Post Production said: “Our mix of studio facilities located at these two well established complexes at Elstree provides an excellent working solution for our customers while Television Centre is being redeveloped. Our expert technical, creative and project management staff will all be moving with us and we’ll be investing in both Elstree Studio sites to ensure we continue to provide our clients with the range of services and experience they have come to expect from us.”
BBC Studios And Post Production create content for a variety with broadcasters and media companies, including BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Five and Sky. They also preserve, re-master and manage content through their digital archiving, restoration and distribution services.
