Benedict Cumberbatch will receive the TIFF Tribute Actor Award at the 46th Toronto International Film Festival next month.
Cumberbatch has two films that receive their Canadian premieres at the festival: Jane Campion’s western The Power Of The Dog for Netflix and Will Sharpe’s The Electrical Life Of Louis Wain at Amazon Studios.
The British star’s credits include Sherlock, The Imitation Game, the Doctor Strange films,Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, 12 Years A Slave, and The Fifth Estate.
Previous recipients of the TIFF Tribute Actor Award include Kate Winslet, Anthony Hopkins, Meryl Streep, and Joaquin Phoenix.
Cumberbatch joins previously announced 2021 TIFF honourees including fellow actor prize recipient Jessica Chastain, filmmaker and activist Alanis Obomsawin (Jeff Skoll Award in Impact Media), and Denis Villeneuve (TIFF Ebert Director Award).
TIFF runs September 9-18.
