In The Aisles, which has its premiere on Friday (Feb 23) in Competition at the Berlin Film Festival, has been picked up for US distribution by Music Box Films.
Sales agent Beta Cinema inked the deal on the title, which stars Berlinale Shooting star Franz Rogowski (Transit), Sandra Hüller (Toni Erdmann) and Peter Kurth (Babylon Berlin).
The film, which is director Thomas Stuber’s third time at Berlin after Teenage Angst and A Heavy Heart, follows a shy and reclusive Christian who after losing his job starts to work for a wholesale market.
Sommerhaus Filmproduktion’s Jochen Laube and Fabian Maubach co-produced In The Aisles with MDR, ARTE, SWR, HR, Departures Film and Rotor Film.
Music Box Films president William Schopf commented: “Director Thomas Stuber has created a microcosm of the world populated by universally recognizable workers finding pride, meaning, friendship and love at their big box store. We are proud to introduce the philosophers and workers of the United States to this unique film.”
“We feel in very good hands and it is great to see Bill and Brian believing so strongly in this gem under the rock,” added Beta Cinema’s CEO Dirk Schuerhoff, who negotiated the deal.
