The film is the feature debut of director Steven Wouterlood. It was produced by Piet-Harm Sterk and Joram Willink at Dutch company BIND. September Film has pre-bought Benelux rights and is lining up a release in autumn 2019.

Based on the novel of the same name by Anna Woltz, which has been published around the world, the film follows a family on holiday on the Dutch island of Terschelling. When the youngest member of the family meets an elusive girl, he gets drawn into an adventure.

The project is a co-production with Germany’s Ostlicht Filmproduktion and is the first film to come out of the Children Co-development Fund collaboration between the Netherlands Film Fund and German fund MDM.

Director Wouterlood’s previous work includes the short film Anything Goes, which won an International Emmy Kids award and a TIFF Kids Award in Toronto.

At Berlin, Picture Tree is also representing Marie Kreuzter’s The Ground Beneath My Feet, which is screening in Competition.
