The Potsdamer Platz area of Berlin, the hub of the Berlinale, has been hit by a sizable protest against the country’s Covid regulations today (Saturday February 12).
German MPs in December approved legislation that will require health and care workers, such as staff at hospitals and nursing homes, to be immunised against Covid-19 by March 15. Yesterday, Germany’s top court refused an injunction barring the mandate.
“It’s not about being anti-vax. We want freedom of choice to be ourselves,” said one protestor.
Some could be seen marching in hospital scrubs in defiance over the upcoming mandate.
The mask-wearing protesters were being accompanied by a moderate police presence. The protest has been organised by a collective called #Friedlichzusammen, who, according to their website, describe themselves as a group campaigning “for a free vaccination decision and a peaceful co-existence”.
The 2022 Berlinale runs until February 16
