Animated sci-fi film White Plastic Sky has scores sales in Europe and Asia by Films Boutique following its world premiere at last month’s Berlinale.
The Berlin-based sales agent has sold the Hungarian feature to KMBO for France and Flash Forward Entertainment for Taiwan. Films Boutique is in talks for the feature at Hong Kong Filmart and deals in China and Italy are expected to close shortly.
Directed by Tibor Bánóczki and Sarolta Szabó, the film is set in 2123 and follows one man’s risky attempts to save his wife in a future world devoid of fauna and flora. The producers are Hungary’s Salto Films and Slovakia’s Artichoke Film Production.
KMBO is planning to release on up to 200 screens in France, distributing subtitled and French dubbed versions. Grégoire Marchal, head of distribution at KMBO, said: “We believe it is a perfect film to appeal to the traditional art house audience but also audiences who need new experiences to come back to see films in theatres.”
White Plastic Sky will be distributed locally by Forum Hungary with a release date set for March 30.
Films Boutique’s Filmart slate also includes Berlin titles The Shadowless Tower by Zhang Lu; Leandro Koch and Paloma Schachmann’s The Klezmer Project by, which won the GWFF best first feature award; Amr Gamal’s The Burdened, winner of the Amnesty International Award; and French documentary Our Body by Claire Simon. Also on the slate is Luka by Jessica Woodworth starring Geraldine Chaplin, which premiered in Rotterdam.
