German sales group Beta Cinema has acquired the world rights for Romanian drama Child’s Pose, which will premiere next month in competition at the Berlin International Film Festival.
The film, directed by Calin Peter Netzer (Maria), explores the relationship between a dominant mother and her grown-up son. It also portrays contemporary upper-class Romania, low-level corruption and the trading of influence in the midst of core social institutions.
Produced by Parade Film, it stars Luminta Gheorghiu (The Death of Mr Lazarescu), Bogdan Dumitrache (Traffic), Ilinca Goia and Natasa Raab (Amen).
Director Netzer previously picked up the Grand Jury Prize in Locarno and the Thessaloniki International Film Festival for his debut feature, Maria.
In addition to the competition screenings, Beta will be selling Child’s Pose at the European Film Market.
