Bleecker Street has acquired North American rights to Marc Turtletaub’s sci-fi comedy Jules starring Ben Kingsley and has set an August 11 exclusive theatrical release.
The film follows Milton (Kingsley) whose quiet life in a small western Pennsylvania town is upended when a UFO and its alien passenger crashes land in his backyard.
Milton develops a close relationship with the extra-terrestrial, whom he calls Jules, and things get complicated when two neighbours discover Jules and the government starts to close in. Harriet Sansom Harris, Zoe Winters, Jade Quon, and Jane Curtin star.
Gavin Steckler wrote the Jules screenplay and producers are Debbie Liebling and Andy Daly, Michael B. Clark, and Alex Turtletaub and Marc Turletaub for Big Beach (Little Miss Sunshine, The Farewell). David Bausch served as executive producer.
Kent Sanderson and Avy Eschenasy brokered the deal on behalf of Bleecker Street with Range Media Partners on behalf of the filmmakers. Big Beach is represented by Sloss Eckhouse Dasti Haynes LawCo.
Jules premiered at this year’s Sonoma International Film Festival where it was the opening night film and won the Stolman Audience Award for Best Feature.
The film joins Bleecker Street’s 2023 slate of Catherine Hardwicke’s Mafia Mamma starring Toni Collette and Monica Bellucci currently in release; Laurel Parmet’s feature directorial debut The Starling Girl out May 12; Alice Troughton’s The Lesson opening on July 7; Guy Nattiv’s Golda starring Helen Mirren which premiered in Berlin and is set for an August 25 theatrical release; and Meg Ryan’s first feature film in eight years, What Happens Later.
