Bleecker Street has acquired US rights to Dominic Cooke’s On Chesil Beach starring Saoirse Ronan and Billy Howle.
CAA brokered the US deal on the film that premiered in Toronto in the Special Presentations section of the festival.
Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley produced On Chesil Beach via their Number 9 Films with backing from BBC Films, which also developed the project. Bleecker Street plans to release the film theatrically next year.
Cooke’s feature debut is adapted by Ian McEwan from his 2007 Booker Prize-shortlisted novel. The story centres on a newly married couple from drastically different backgrounds who spend their honeymoon in a small hotel on the Dorset coast. Emily Watson, Anne-Marie Duff, Samuel West and Adrian Scarborough also star.
Cooke is a former Royal Court Theatre artistic director. He also wrote and directed episodes of the BBC series The Hollow Crown.
Rocket Science represents international rights, and has previously sold the film to Australia, Canada, France and Japan, among others. Lionsgate will release the film in the UK.
