Bleecker Street has partnered with LD Entertainment on US rights to Max Minghella’s directorial debut Teen Spirit starring Elle Fanning.
The companies are planning a 2019 release on the film about a shy teenager in Europe who befriends an unlikely mentor as she sets out to become a pop star. Rebecca Hall, Zlatko Buric, and Agnieszka Grochowska round out the key cast.
Fred Berger produced Teen Spirit, which premiered in Toronto in September. Jamie Bell, who starred in Toronto premiere Skin, served as executive producer.
Interscope Records co-produced with Automatik and Blank Tape, and will release the official soundtrack featuring contemporary pop anthems.
“We are excited to be working with Mickey and Pete from LD to bring this electric and inspiring story to audiences in spring 2019,” said Bleecker Street CEO Andrew Karpen. “Max is an incredible talent and we know Elle’s performance will thrill film and music fans alike.”
LD Entertainment founder and CEO Mickey Liddell added, “This is the perfect film to reunite us with our friends at Bleecker Street. Max’s directorial debut is nothing short of amazing… He is a true visionary. Audiences are going to come back to see Elle Fanning’s magnetic performance again and again.”
CAA and Mister Smith Entertainment represented US rights, and the latter handles international sales.
