In what is its first acquisition of foreign- language film, Bleecker Street has secured US rights to Maria Schrader’s I’m Your Man, the German romantic comedy that won Maren Eggert the best actor Silver Bear at last month’s Berlin festival.
Bleecker plans to release the film in cinemas later this year, with a VoD release to follow.
Written by Jan Schomburg and Schrader and inspired by an Emma Braslavsky short story, the film was produced by Lisa Blumenberg and executive produced by Dan Stevens, who also stars, and Schrader. Beta Cinema is handling sales.
Eggert plays a scientist who, coerced into participating in a study in order to fund her research, has to live with a humanoid robot (Stevens) tailored to her character and needs.
Bleecker CEO Andrew Karpen said: “Maria has created such a funny and touching story of love and connection that one questions what it means to be human. Maren and Dan are sure to be this year’s most romantic modern couple.”
This is the third feature from Schrader following Love Life and Stefan Zweig: Farewell To Europe, who recently won a Primetime Emmy for her direction of the Netflix mini-series Unorthodox.
