Toronto-based distributor Game Theory Films, which holds rights to TIFF selections Riceboy Sleeps and Le Coyote, has promoted Hilary Hart to co-president alongside William Woods.
The company has also closed a deal to secure a seven-figure cash injection from an angel investor that will enable the team to board projects at an earlier stage and help filmmakers to close financing.
Game Theory Films’s focus remains Canadian projects and quality titles from around the world.
“Anyone who’s worked with Game Theory knows that Hilary is at the core of the company, so it’s only appropriate for her to be co-president,” said Woods. “Over the first four years of the company, Hilary’s also proven she has excellent taste and is passionate about the films she works on, but now with some resources behind her, the film community will get to see her true potential.”
“I have been fortunate enough to work with this incredible team and I look forward to continuing to grow and learn with them,” added Hart. “I’m passionate about continuing our commitment to under-represented creatives through our BIPOC Filmmaker Initiative and working with emerging filmmakers. This is an exciting time for Game Theory Films and I’m grateful for the opportunity.”
The company also announced the promotion of Jessamine Fok to marketing and operations manager.
Game Theory was established in 2018 and besides TIFF selections Riceboy Sleeps and Le Coyote its recent theatrical highlights include Clio Barnard’s Ali & Ava, Tabija (The White Fortress) and documentary Becoming A Queen.
