Korea’s Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) has appointed Kim Young-woo as Asian Cinema programmer, to handle documentaries and short films from Asia.
BIFF executive programmer Kim Ji-Seok co-managed the Asian Cinema section with programmer Cho Young-jung until her exit at the end of 2013. Kim Young-woo will start work this June.
Having majored in Visual Arts and Television at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, the newly appointed Kim started working as a programmer at local fests including the Chungmuro International Film Festival and Green Film Festival, both in Seoul.
Busan’s current programmers are: Kim Ji-Seok, executive programmer as well as in charge of Asian Cinema; Nam Dong-chul, Korean Cinema programmer; Rhee Soue-won, Dosin Pak and Jin Park – all World Cinema programmers; and Hong Hyosook, Korean Documentaries programmer and director of the Asian Cinema Fund.
The 19th BIFF will run Oct 2-11, with the Asian Film Market Oct 5-8 and the Asian Project Market Oct 6-8.
