EXCLUSIVE: Dean Devlin’s international sales division will commence pre-sales next month on psychological thriller Border Crossing, based on the novel by Pat Barker.
Bette Gordon will direct the story and Josh Charles, Julia Stiles, Avan Jogia, Tracie Thoms, Leo Fitzpatrick and John C McGinley will star.
Border Crossing is a cat-and-mouse tale about a psychologist who reopens old wounds and an old case after he rescues a drowning person whom he helped convict 12 years earlier.
Stephen Molton and Frank Pugliese adapted the screenplay.
The Film Community’s Jamin O’Brien and Daniel L Blanc produce alongside Radium Cheung.
Electric’s head of international distribution Sonia Mehandjiyska brought the project to the company and will lead sales efforts on the Croisette.
Vice-president of acquisitions Jernej Razen and vice-president of business and legal affairs worldwide distribution Craig Gates negotiated the deal for Electric.
“We are very excited to be collaborating with Electric,” said O’Brien. “They have a very diverse slate with big action fare and prestigious dramas alike and Border Crossing fits right in.”
“Pat Barker’s novel has provided such excellent source material for the project and we are very pleased to be working with The Film Community to bring this story to international buyers,” said Mehandjiyska.
Gordon directed the 2010 Tribeca selection Handsome Harry with Steve Buscemi, Aidan Quinn, Campbell Scott and Jamey Sheridan.
Mehandjiyska and her team recently licensed The Librarians to select broadcasters including Universal International Television and is selling international rights to winter 2016 broadcast Mercy Street, the PBS Civil War historical drama that Ridley Scott produces.
Electric co-financed, produced and is selling international rights to Go With Me starring Anthony Hopkins, Ray Liotta and Stiles.
The company recently wrapped production on Devlin’s feature directorial debut Geostorm, which he is producing with Skydance Pictures’ David Ellison and Dana Goldberg and his Electric Entertainment team of Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan. Warner Bros will distribute in the US in late 2016.
The Film Community is in post on Chronically Metropolitan starring Mary Louise Parker, Chris Noth, Shiloh Fernandez and Ashley Benson and is preparing the thriller Double Exposure.
