The 72nd Cannes Film Festival will take place from Tuesday, May 14 to Saturday, May 25, in 2019, it has been announced.
The festival announced its 2019 dates via its Twitter account on Monday afternoon in an upbeat message.
“Summer is here! We are pleased to announce that the 72nd edition of the Festival de Cannes will take place Tuesday 14th to Saturday 25th May 2019. Note the dates down before you forget!,” tweeted the festival.
The announced dates mean the event has decided to retain its new Tuesday to Saturday schedule, which was introduced this year, replacing the former Wednesday to Sunday schedule, but will run a week later.
Some industry regulars have suggested that the new timings have led to industry guests shortening their stay at the festival and market, suggesting that if they arrive on a Monday or Tuesday, they clear out by the end of the first weekend rather than staying for the first few days of the second week.
It remains to be seen whether the festival will also retain the controversial new press and market screening rules it introduced last year, ditching previews of red carpet premiere titles in favour of simultaneous screenings for all in attendance.
