Comedian and actor Chris Rock will become the first person to perform live on Netflix in his comedy special in early 2023.
The live global streaming event will be Rock’s second show on the platform after Chris Rock: Tamborine aired in February 2018.
One possible part of the entertainer’s routine that will be highly anticipated is his reflection on the notorious 94th Academy Awards last March when eventual Oscar winner Will Smith slapped Rock as he presented the award for best feature documentary.
Rock has largely kept quiet on the matter during his Ego Death Tour and has said he will talk in more depth about the incident on Netflix.
“Chris Rock is one of the most iconic and important comedic voices of our generation,” said Robbie Praw, Netflix VP of stand-up and comedy formats. “We’re thrilled the entire world will be able to experience a live Chris Rock comedy event and be a part of Netflix history. This will be an unforgettable moment and we’re so honored that Chris is carrying this torch.”
