The president of distribution at Universal Pictures International will receive the 2014 International Distributor Of The Year Award in Barcelona on June 17.
Clark has served in his role since June 2011 and has extended his contract through 2016.
He supervises Universal Pictures International’s operating companies, United International Pictures (UIP) and UPI’s independent partners and sales agents.
Clark was instrumental in establishing Universal’s standalone international distribution infrastructure when the studio transitioned from the UIP joint venture with Paramount Pictures in 2007. He is also responsible for the supervision of the print servicing, post-production adaption and delivery of the company’s international releases.
During his tenure at the studio, Clark has helped guide Universal Pictures to some of its best years at the international box office. In 2013 the studio crossed the $2bn international box office mark for the first time in history.
Prior to Universal, Clark was a marketing and distribution consultant on Steven Spielberg’s War Of The Worlds and Munich and performed a similar role on Casino Royale.
He served 14 years at Columbia Pictures/Sony Pictures from 1986-2000 in New York and Los Angeles, first as head of international marketing division before rising to becomepresident of international distribution.
While in the UK he led marketing and distribution from 1980-1986 for UIP/UK, the then distributor for Universal, Paramount and MGM/United Artists.
“It is a great honour for CineEurope to be able to single out Duncan for all he has done throughout his career as a respected and admired distribution executive in the business,” said event managing director Robert Sunshine.
“You could not ask for a more dedicated leader whose passion and commitment to both his company and the industry have helped bring quality films to so many moviegoers around the world. This is an honour so richly deserved by an individual who has demonstrated excellence within every aspect of international film distribution.”
CineEurope will take place from June 16-19 at the Centre Convencions Internacional Barcelona.
