Cinema Guild has picked up all US rights to Juan Pablo González’s Sundance selection Dos Estaciones, which earned a special jury award for lead actor Teresa Sánchez’s performance earlier this year.
The feature directorial debut will screen in New Directors/New Films later this month and was also an official selection of True/False Film Festival, where González earned the True Vision Award.
Dos Estaciones follows 50-year-old businesswoman María García, the owner of the eponymous, Mexican-owned tequila factory with an illustrious past that is now struggling to stay afloat. A plague and flooding forces Maria to do whatever she can to save the company, a major employer in the community.
Cinema Guild president Peter Kelly negotiated the deal with the film’s producers Jamie Gonçalves, Ilana Coleman, and Bruna Haddad of Sin Sitio Cine, and executive producer Matthew Perniciaro of Diorama.
Cinema Guild’s upcoming releases include Hong Sangsoo’s In Front Of Your Face and Anthony Banua-Simon’s Cane Fire.
