Leading South Korean entertainment company CJ ENM has appointed Steve W. Chung as its first global chief growth officer, based in Los Angeles.
Previously chief growth officer at Fox Corporation, Chung takes up the newly created position with immediate effect and will oversee CJ ENM’s global strategy as the company aims to accelerate its international expansion plans.
“We are at a time where our company is experiencing exponential growth and seeking opportunities to further expand our business globally,” said Kang Ho-sung, CEO of CJ ENM. “Based on his leadership in driving the growth of companies in Hollywood and Silicon Valley, we are thrilled to have Steve join our team as one of our key executives to position CJ ENM as a global entertainment company of the future.”
The Korean company acquired a controlling stake in the scripted business of US studio Endeavor Content in January and has been forming strategic partnerships with companies such as Japan’s Toei Animation and broadcasting company TBS, as well as with US-based Skydance Media. CJ ENM’s streaming platform Tving is also partnered with Paramount Global in a global deal that covers co-productions of series and films, content licensing and distribution.
Chung said CJ ENM had “a perfect launchpad for its next growth phase on the world stage”.
“On the heels of its Oscar honours with Parasite and its majority acquisition of Endeavor Content, I am incredibly excited to work with the talented team to further drive and cement CJ ENM’s position as an indispensable and diverse voice in the media industry,” he added.
Before joining Fox, Chung was founder and CEO of Frankly, a publicly-traded media tech company in San Francisco, and worked as a venture capitalist in Silicon Valley and an executive producer in China. He serves as a board member of the non-profit National Asia Pacific Center on Aging (NAPCA) and is a graduate of Harvard College with an MBA from Stanford University.
