CNN Films has acquired US streaming and broadcast rights to Dionne Warwick: Don’t Make Me Over and will set the documentary as one of the first films to premiere on its upcoming streaming service CNN+ which is scheduled to debut this spring.
Mister Smith handles international sales at the EFM this week on the film, co-directed by Dave Wooley and David Heilbroner, which explores the life of the legendary singer who broke racial and gender barriers to rise from her roots in New Jersey gospel choirs to attain global superstardom and continues to fight discrimination.
Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Alicia Keys, Gloria Estefan, Gladys Knight, Snoop Dogg, Olivia Newton-John, Smokey Robinson and Carlos Santana are among the interviewees who pay tribute.
Stacey Wolf, SVP of business affairs for CNN Worldwide, brokered the deal on behalf of CNN Films and CNN+ with Endeavor Content and Mister Smith for the filmmakers.
Dionne Warwick: Don’t Make Me Over premiered at the TIFF 2021 where it received the Special Tribute Award and was first runner-up for the People’s Choice Award for documentaries. Executive producers are Raymond Schinazi, Geralyn Dreyfous, Regina K. Scully, Michelle Freeman, Wes Hall, and Artemis Rising Foundation.
It was previously announced that The Last Movie Stars, a six-chapter film about Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman directed by Ethan Hawke, will debut on CNN+.
