Content Media has come on to handle international sales on Alex Gibney’s documentary Going Clear: Scientology And The Prison Of Belief ahead of the Sundance world premiere on January 25.
Gibney adapted Lawrence Wright’s book, a bestseller that charts the rise of L Ron Hubbard’s church and examines personal testimonies from former members including film-maker Paul Haggis.
The film profiles eight former members of the church as they describe a pattern of abuse and betrayal by officials, including the current leadership of the church.
HBO holds US television rights to Going Clear and is eyeing a March 16 broadcast.
Gibney’s company Jigsaw Productions is a partner of Content Media.
Campfire, the recently announced production venture with Ross Dinerstein, will also attend the festival with Rodney Ascher’s Park City At Midnight entry The Nightmare.
Content’s international sales slate includes rom-com Comet starring Justin Long and Emmy Rossum; horror The Diabolical that just sold to XLrator Media in the US; and Janis: Little Girl Blue from Amy Berg.
