CCFL also unveils development scheme for low Budget VFX and 3D films.
The Cross Channel Film Lab (CCFL) has revealed its selection of four low to medium budget feature film projects, all utilising visual effects and/or Stereo 3D in “brave, original and imaginative ways”, to participate in the Lab’s year-long workshop programme in 2014.
The Lab offers filmmakers an opportunity to develop their screenplays and production strategies within an applied research platform dedicated to Stereo 3D, visual effects and CGI.
The four projects selected to participate in 2014 are:
Dome (France - VFX), writer-director Luis Briceno, producer Jérémy Rochigneux;
La Fille de l’Estuaire (UK - Stereo 3D), writer-director Gaëlle Denis, producer Ohna Falby;
The Incredible Voyage of Dullwich-on-Sea (UK - VFX), director Jamie Stone, writer Joe Barton, producer Sophie Vickers;
Tro Fanch (France - Stereo 3D), writer-director Gill Taws.
Writer-director-producer teams will work with experts from the UK and France, combining story and technology at an early stage to experiment, explore and exchange information about their projects, and strengthen their production and post-production planning.
Script consultants, VFX and Stereo 3D experts, and specialist researchers will assist the filmmakers in testing the most effective ways for the projects to use technology and engage audiences at a lower budget.
The first 2014 workshop of the CCFL will take place in March in Brittany, the home of French partner Le Groupe Ouest. Visual effects and Stereo 3D practitioners will participate alongside the selected CCFL filmmakers. The workshop will be followed by test shooting in Stereo 3D.
The scheme has been developing four other film projects during 2013:
The Machine (UK - VFX), writer-director Richard Fenwick;
One and All (UK - Stereo 3D), director Henry Davies, writers Will Coleman and Graham Mitchell, producers John Crooks and Denzil Monk;
La Reine du Sabbat (France - Stereo 3D): writer-director Pablo Agüero, producer Nicolas R. de la Mothe;
Voice from the Deep (France - VFX), writer-director David Vital-Durand, producer Ilann Girard.
Open Sessions, supported by Creative Skillset, recorded during the 2013 Lab can be viewed on the Cross Channel website.
