Encounters’ micro short filmmaking competition has introduced a cinematography award and boosted its overall prize fund to £3,000, in partnership with the Royal Photographic Society.
DepicT!, Watershed’s micro short filmmaking competition as part of Encounters Short Film & Animation Festival, has launched a new cinematography award.
In partnership with the Royal Photographic Society, DepicT! has been able to introduce an award celebrating the art of cinematography, as well as doubling the prize money for its overall awards to £3,000.
DepicT! producer Maddy Probst said: “The partnership with the RPS is a very exciting development for DepicT! We share a passion for image making, innovative practice and an ambition to uncover and progress distinctive creative talent.”
Celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, DepicT! is focused on short films under 90 seconds long. For the first time this year, the audience award will carry a £500 prize.
“We feel it’s important to recognise this swiftly changing and influential medium by helping and supporting up and coming film makers; this new award seems a perfect way of doing it and it’s the ideal time: Encounters are planning a major focus on cinematography this year,” added RPS education manager Liz Williams.
DepicT! 2012 winning shorts are screening at cinemas and film societies across the UK over the next few months, including London’s Curzon Soho and Renoir and the Glasgow Film Theatre.
