Deal secured with producers Sixteen Films and Fly Film.
Documentary distributor Dogwoof will handle all UK distribution for Ken Loach’s new post-war film, The Spirit of ’45, following a deal with producers Sixteen Films and Fly Film.
The agreement includes a theatrical release in the UK/Ireland in early 2013 as well as via iTunes, Dogwoof TV and DVD distribution.
Dogwoof’s Oli Harbottle brokered the deal.
Rebecca O’Brien, who produced the film alongside Kate Ogborn and Lisa Marie Russo, said: “We’re looking forward to working with [Dogwoof] over the next few months to help us reach a new audience for this very special archive-based film.”
The theatrical release will be supported by an interactive project in collaboration with the film-makers, commissioned by the BFI and Film 4.0.
The film focuses on 1945, a pivotal year in British history when the unity that carried the country through the war led to a vision of a better society.
Loach has combined film from the archives with sound recordings and contemporary interviews to create a political and social narrative.
