World premieres of Fintan Connolly’s Barber and Claire Dix’s Spotlight are among the line-up for the Dublin International Film Festival (DIFF, February 24 – March 4).
Connolly’s Barber stars Aidan Gillen as a private investigator investing the disappearance of a wealthy widow’s granddaughter. Gillen previously led Connolly’s 2005 film Trouble With Sex which was nominated for eight Irish Film and Television awards.
Sunlight follows a recovering addict who is caring for his terminally ill sponsor. The cast includes Barry Ward and Liam Carney. Dix was last as DIFF in 2013 with audience award-winner Broken Song.
The festival will close with the world premiere of Fergus Dowd and Joe Lee’s documentary 406 Days about the 2020 Debenhams picket.
Also world-premiering is Margo Harkin’s documentary Stolen which explores the history of Ireland’s mother and baby scandal.
Other festival highlights are Daniel Goldhaber’s How To Blow Up A Pipeline; Klaus Härö’s My Sailor, My Love; Patricio Guzmán’s My Imaginary Country; Robert Connolly’s BlueBlack; Kristoffer Borgli’s Sick Of Myself; and Chie Hayakawa’s Plan 75.
The European and world cinema programmes include Mia Hansen-Løve’s One Fine Morning, Lukas Dhont’s Close and Manuela Martelli’s 1976.
DIFF previously announced that Saela Davis and Anna Rose Holmer’s God’s Creatures, starring Emily Watson and Paul Mescal, would open the festival on February 24.
